Pilates: Kick start your New Years Resolution - by Alice Willsher

Why Pilates should be the top of your 2024 New Years Resolution?

Meet Alice! An APPI certified mat work and reformer Pilates instructor.

Join her as she shares her journey, the benefits of Pilates and why it is a great addition to everyone’s health and fitness routine this year.

Hi, I’m Alice

I have been practicing pilates since I was a teenager and fell in love with the movement and how it makes my body feel both physically and mentally.

After graduating uni and starting my full-time office job, pilates was a great form of my own selfcare and kept me energised and moving even while working a 9-5. So, I decided to turn my passion for pilates into a side hustle. I completed my certification with Unite Health in 2022 and began teaching at KX Pilates in early 2023, as well as I have taught some online mat work classes, and slowly growing my brand on Instagram.

I love helping people feel confident with exercise, and seeing people reach their goals in pilates has been so rewarding. I am the biggest advocate for anything pilates and am always ready to share my passion with others!

We all know the drill. New year, new you, right? But let's be honest, the same old gym routine can start to feel a little unexciting for some. This year, why not spice things up with Pilates! This versatile practice has many benefits that will leave you feeling strong, centred, and make you feel excited to exercise.

  • Pilates keeps things fresh with a diverse range of movements that'll challenge your mind and body in all new ways. From graceful mat flows to dynamic reformer workouts, there's a Pilates style out there for everyone. No more repetitive routines, just pure movement joy!

  • Whether you're a gym junkie or a homebody, Pilates has your back (and core!). Complement your existing gym workout plan by adding pilates to the mix. Weightlifters will love the improved posture and flexibility, as well as enhanced muscle endurance. While desk workers can say goodbye to sore necks and hello to comfortable workdays. Got five minutes? Squeeze in a quick desk flow or seated sequence for a refreshing energy boost during your work day.

  • Pilates practice goes beyond the physical, fostering a deep connection between your mind and body. Learn to tune into your muscles, feel the flow of movement, and let go of tension. Pilates is your hour of self-care, a sanctuary from the daily grind where you can focus on you and forget about the outside world.

  • The beauty of Pilates lies in its adaptability. Choose what is right for you! Studio reformer classes can range from serene flows to heart-pumping cardio, while mat pilates offers an equally effective option. Prefer the social scene? Join group classes with friends (or meet like-minded people!). If you want a more personalised experience, private sessions are for you. Online classes and social media tutorials even let you bring the studio home (a more cost-effective option). Just remember, safety first! Opt for certified instructors (bonus points for physiotherapists) to ensure you're getting the most out of your practice.

2024 is your year to embrace the world of Pilates! This exciting and unique form of exercise offers countless benefits, from physical strength and flexibility to mental clarity and stress relief. With its diverse styles, accessibility, and emphasis on mind-body connection, Pilates is the perfect resolution that keeps on giving. Ready to move with intention and feel amazing? Step onto your mat (or reformer) and discover the magic of Pilates in 2024!
